Top five energy saving tips for spring

 In Energy Saving

Now that spring has officially sprung, we’ve decided to put together some of our top energy-saving tips for longer days and (hopefully) better weather.

Switch off the tumble dryer

Take advantage of the longer days and warmer weather by drying your washing outdoors instead of in a tumble dryer. Of course, the British weather can be unpredictable, but you’ll notice a difference in your electricity bills if you peg out your washing whenever you can.

Keep an eye on your heating

Now is a good time to get savvy with your heating.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, more than half the money spent on fuel bills goes towards providing heating and hot water.
Installing a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator valves, and using these controls efficiently, could save you up to £155 a year.
But doing something as simple as turning your thermostat’s dial down by one degree can reduce your energy bills.

Take a shower instead of a bath

We all know how relaxing a long soak in the bath can be, but if you want to save on your bills, a shower is usually the best option. A large amount of hot water is required for a deep, luxurious bath, compared to a quick shower. But remember not to linger too long under the shower head if you want to use less water and save energy.

Insulation is key

Now is the perfect time to make sure your home is fit for purpose all year round. Ensuring your property is well insulated will keep out the chill, save you money and help the planet, too.
Spray foam is a high quality insulating material that cuts up to 92% of heat loss.
It also helps to prevent issues such as damp and mould, and because it sets as a solid, protective layer when it dries, can cut down on external noise pollution too.

Harness the energy of the sun

It’s worth exploring the possibility of using renewable sources of energy for your heating or electricity, such as solar power. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels capture energy from the sun and transform it into electricity for your home.
As well as saving money on your energy bills, you can make extra cash thanks to a Government-backed incentive scheme – and sell any surplus electricity back to the Grid. It’s a win-win!
