Control energy costs by trading electricity

Solar panels used in a Power Purchase Agreement

Many businesses and organisations want to make the most of renewable energy sources, while protecting against fluctuating prices. That’s where a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) can make all the difference, allowing producers of green energy to optimise production and take control of their costs.

How a Power Purchase Agreement works

A Power Purchase Agreement is exactly what it sounds like. If you are able to generate enough electricity on your land or property, you’ll be able to trade any excess power produced and enjoy a reduced energy tariff yourself too. A third party usually manages the installation, permission and maintenance of the renewable energy system, while the customer benefits from lower bills for minimal or zero initial outlay.

PPAs can be used alongside large-scale solar PV or wind turbine on commercial or industrial properties, or as a complement to other forms of renewable energy production such as wind or energy from waste. Contracts often last for a lengthy period of time, enabling customers to accurately forecast energy bills and protect against fluctuating prices.

There are conditions attached to a PPA. Electricity demand must be high and there must be enough space to host a large renewable energy system. For this reason, ideal scenarios may include manufacturing sites with sufficient rooftop space or a business with enough adjoining land for a ground-mounted solar system or space for wind turbines.
