Is ‘inertia’ over energy bills causing financial hardship?

 In Energy Bills, Energy Saving

IS RELUCTANCE to swap utility suppliers and take action on energy efficiency causing financial difficulty?

Certainly that’s the view of the experts, who say that fear over changing energy providers is costing people up to £235 a year on average.

The research has been commissioned by comparethemarket.com, who have teamed up with psychologists from the University of Sheffield to uncover the reasons why people put off tasks even though they know they will be able to save money by making a change.

The Institute of Inertia was launched last year and it will be interesting to hear more about their findings.

Why do we routinely ignore what’s best for us, even though we know exactly what we need to do to achieve a better outcome? The Institute’s initial findings have revealed, for instance, that 53 per cent of people admit to never changing a utility bill, despite around a quarter of those surveyed worrying about money at least once a week.

It seems that even though switching energy suppliers could save us money and won’t take up a lot of our time, we are still reluctant to go ahead and take action.

Of course, here at Noreus we’d argue that the most savings can be made, not just by switching energy supplier, but by making sure your home is as energy efficient as possible too.

Simple energy-saving measures such as insulation will not only result in a real difference in your pocket but will also make your home a cosier place to be by conserving what heat you do create and cutting noise and air pollution.
