Could homeowners save hundreds on fuel bills by 2020?

In Energy Bills, Home Insulation, Solar Panel Systems

IT IS being reported that adopting simple measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation would mean households across the country could cut energy costs by hundreds of pounds by 2020.

Well, of course here at Noreus, this comes as no great surprise! Still the report, which was published on Thisismoney.co.uk earlier this month, makes interesting reading.

The article states that a policy research unit claims homeowners could save up to £303 on their annual dual fuel bill in less than five years’ time, as long as energy-efficiency measures are made.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) says that the biggest savings can be made if people look at installing a new boiler or home insulation.

The research, based on data provided by the Government and British Gas, reveals that nationwide gas and electricity use has decreased over the past decade – and is predicting a continuation of the downward trend.

More efficient domestic appliances and greater consumer awareness about the impact of energy use on the environment, is believed to have contributed to the decline.

For the period between 2005 and 2014, overall gas consumption dropped by 27 percent while electricity usage also decreased by 11 per cent.

Meanwhile, the report also states that the further predicted drop by 2020 will be helped as more people take up technologies including loft and cavity wall insulation, SMART meters and solar panels.

Indeed, our company has seen a huge shift in recent years as people make changes to how they create, use and conserve energy.

Cebr has revealed the collective total of savings could amount to £1.5 billion across Britain if energy-efficiency measures carry on in popularity.

These huge savings would be brought about by continuing cuts in energy consumption.

So what is our advice to homeowners?

Make sure your home is as energy efficient as possible. You can ask us for a thermal image report, which will show you how much your home is losing heat and where from.

Remember that installing loft and cavity wall insulation isn’t just about saving you money in the long-term (which it will certainly do). It’s also about making your property warm, inviting and comfortable too.
