MPs told: ‘Many homes fall below modern standards of heating and insulation’
EVIDENCE submitted to a group of MPs from Public Health England certainly makes interesting reading.
The report was made to The Energy and Climate Change Committee, which is currently collecting information as part of an inquiry into home energy efficiency.
Public Health England (PHE) stated that many houses fall well below modern standards of heating and insulation, with more than a quarter of all adults over the age of 60 living in properties that fail to meet the decent homes standard.
The organisation, which works alongside the NHS and local authorities to improve public health, also underlined the health implications of living in a poorly heated and insufficiently insulated home.
PHE’s evidence to the MPs went on to say: “The available evidence suggests that energy efficiency measures have a largely positive effect on the physical and mental health of occupants through improving winter indoor temperatures and reducing fuel poverty.”
At Noreus, we use spray foam insulation to offer superior sealing capability, with no tiny gaps or imperfections that allow warm air to escape.
Interestingly, the PHE evidence warns against some negative effects which can be experienced by people who have had low-quality insulation installed – including poor air quality and possible risks of overheating in hot weather.
We agree that ventilation is key. So our team tests air quality and puts in filters to promote good circulation around the home.
That means our customers can enjoy a lovely, cosy home environment in the winter but will never need to worry about getting too hot in the summer.
