Noreus Ltd is one of four finalists in a top competition organised by Keele University.

Owner Ron Fox said he was delighted his company had been honoured in the sustainable futures section, one of ten categories in the 2023 Breaking the Mould awards.

His firm is one of four finalists in this section, sponsored by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, which rewards new, sustainable and low carbon processes that have boosted the local economy.

The prize ceremony will take place next Thursday (October ) at the university in North Staffordshire and it will be hosted by TV broadcaster Natasha Kaplinsky.

The annual contest, which began in 2019, aims to highlight the innovative businesses, charities and groups in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire which have benefitted from Keele University’s support.

Noreus Ltd, which is based at Keele University’s Science and Innovation Park and was founded in 2008, provides insulation and alternative heating, lighting and hot water systems for homes and businesses across the Midlands and the UK

It has many years of experience in providing insulation for warmth and efficiency, alongside alternative heating, lighting and hot water systems around the country.

Ron said: “From the outset, our focus has been on whole-building energy efficiency. When a property is inefficient, this leads to higher bills through unnecessary energy waste.

“We know from our numerous customers that by making improvements to efficiency through the addition of new solutions or working with a building’s existing features can save money and help reduce energy consumption too. We also understand that there is no one size-fits-all, single piece of technology that can ‘fix’ a property that leaks heat and energy.”

Noreus Ltd supports the UK government which has made a commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2050, a pledge which will cushion against the worst effects of climate change.

Part of the strategy to achieve this goal will involve installing heat pumps, with a target of 600,000 installations before 2028.

However, Noreus also supports several industry bodies in calling for a National Retrofit Strategy which wants to make existing homes greener and more energy efficient.

Ron added: “Our base is in Staffordshire, where many older properties suffer from inadequate insulation and poor ventilation – and are therefore more expensive to run than they need to be.

“We believe in the importance of identifying how overall building health and thermal performance can be improved, and only then make our recommendations based on what will bring the most benefit.

“This whole-house approach includes heat pumps, thermodynamics for hot water and heating and solar panels for electricity, but also insulation to ensure maximum efficiency.

“We offer wind turbines and infrared heating and are proud to have partnered with many Midlands-based businesses to offer our customers greater choice if they want to explore other renewable options.”

He concluded: “Getting the foundations right in our region’s buildings will pave the way for a sustainable future ahead.”
